Cross-Cultural Approaches to Desirable AI

09.10.2024 10:00 bis 22.01.2025 12:00 Online / Zoom,
The online seminar series "Cross-Cultural Approaches to Desirable AI" is a collaboration between the Universities of Cambridge, Bonn, Tokyo and the University of Europe for Applied Sciences. Its focus is to support and develop intercultural and interdisciplinary discussion on AI and social justice, particularly from intersectional feminist and anti-racist perspectives. We bring together researchers working on AI and digital technologies of all career stages from a variety of disciplines. The series seeks to bridge perspectives from the arts and sciences, with a particular emphasis on encouraging students with technical and engineering backgrounds to engage with ethical issues surrounding AI. The concept of "desirable AI" refers to the development of technology that places social justice and environmental sustainability at its core. Rather than simply optimizing technology, the goal is to design AI that reflects and respects the diverse values and needs of different cultures.

Catalog of General Ethical Requirements for AI Certification

18.12.2024 von 15:00 bis 17:00 Internationales Zentrum für Philosophie (IZPh), Seminarraum, Poppelsdorfer Allee 28,
This workshop marks the launch of the white paper "General Ethical Requirements for AI Certification". The KI. NRW flagship-project "Zertifizierte KI" ("Certified AI") explores the question of what a certification of "trustworthy AI" could look like. The philosophy team, Nicholas Kluge Corrêa and Julia Maria Mönig , research this question from an ethical perspective. While many arguments can be made against certifying "ethical" AI, the team's latest publication offers guidance to computer scientists and programmers on how to try to make AI-based applications more "ethical". The presentation of the whitepaper will be followed by a discussion with Markus Gabriel, principal investigator of the Philosophy subproject of "Zertifizierte KI", and Jocelyn Maclure who will comment on it from a philosophical perspective, drawing on his expertise and decade-long experience in AI ethics.
